Gel Coat

Equipment for applying gel coat in open or closed mold processes

Gel coat is a pigmented polyester which is the aesthetic or show surface of the finished composite product. Gel coat is typically sprayed onto the mold to a thickness of 15-25 mils. The gel coat is typically catalyzed at 2% (by volume) and will have a gel time of 30 to 45 minutes. The mold will be ready for the next operation in 2-3 hours. Gel coat is applied onto the mold in multiple passes. Most material suppliers recommend at least 2 or 3 passes to build up desired thickness.
